BENGAL COLOURS AND PATTENS
BROWN SPOTTED- are also know as black spotted
SEAL SEPIA- Are snow bangals which has green or gold eye colour
SEAL MINK- Are also snow bengals with a very light brown coat.
SILVER- silver background with black spots
THE TWO COAT PATTENS
SPOTTED- The coat is covered in spots.They must be random. most of the spots are on the torso, belly and legs. Rosettes are desired as are spots shaped like arrow heads or paws.
MARBLE- There are horizontal swirls running down the side of the coat. The patten should be random. Vertical stripes are undisirable.At a young age a young age kittens should have a butterfly patten vissable across there shoulder blades. there belly will be spotted.
PERSONALITY
Bengals are often described as being dog like. They can be quiet, independent, skittish around people they don't know. Mostly they are sociable affectionate strong willed, playful,love to jump, chase, climb,they are patient with kids that they know and they love to talk.
Studs will be very territorial with other cat they don't know around them.
Bengals love to play in water but they dont like being splashed.
Bengal History
Bengals are an Asian leopard crossed with a demestic cats. in 1963 Jaean Sudgen purchased a asian leopard from a pet shop. she thought that she was lovly and put a black male demestic cat in with her for company. They mated and producesed 2 kittens a female and male the male sadly was mauled. but the feamle was put in with a himalayan queen who raised her.
Jean contacted Cornell univesty they said kinkin was instrile. They were wrong kinkin mated back with her dad. Aand produce two kitens 1 black female and a brown sptted male. Jean husband dead and she abandoned the project.
In 1980 Jean contact geneticist Dr Centerwall who was working on an breeding progame the crossed leapard cats with demestic cats. This was part of a study for feline leukaemia. Jean obtained several F1 hybrids from this pragramme.
While in India jaen and her husdand notice a ferale demestice cat with markings similar leopard. He was living in a rhino enclosure. Jean imported this cat into the united states and breed him with an hybrid female. Other demestic cat use in theis programme includind Ocicats, Egyptian Mau, Bombay, Britsh short hair and Abyssinians. The breed odtained offical recognation by the TICA in1984
